Marlboro County Branch NAACP will host its annual MLK Day Parade at 11 a.m. Jan. 15.

The event will be a completely drive-thru but the need to honor Rev. Dr. King’s birthday is always historic even during this second year of the pandemic.

People are encouraged to decorate their vehicles with a “Happy Birthday message” and/or invite family and friends to park or stand (in small groups) along the street in support.

The theme is “Racial Equality and Fairness”.

The parade route will begin on John Corry Road; turning right onto East Main Street, traveling to West Main Street, turning right onto Cheraw Street, and exiting right onto Ball Park Road.

There will not be a closing ceremony.

All participants will be given a lineup number on a first-come basis.

Participants are asked to have the correct entry fee in an envelope, stay in his/her vehicle, and maintain social distance. Masks are encouraged. The lineup will begin at 10 a.m.

Parade entry fees are $10 for a vehicle, truck, or van; $10 for motorcycle/ATV; $25 for a group rate of three for vehicles, trucks, vans; $25 for a group rate of three for motorcycles and ATVs; no charge for walking groups and or horses. There will be no charge for fire, law enforcement, EMS.

All proceeds from this event will help defray the cost of seniors 70 and older membership dues. Membership is the lifeblood of the NAACP.

The membership campaign will run from Jan. 1 – Feb. 28.
