Local lawyer named as 'rising star'
Mason W. King, of the Douglas Jennings Law Firm in Bennettsville, has been honored by being selected to the 2017 South Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Stars list.
The annual Super Lawyers Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state.   Each prospective candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.
This rigorous multiphase selection process includes peer nominations, independent research, and evaluations by a panel of attorneys.  The Rising Stars list recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys in the state – those who are 40 years old or younger, or those who have been practicing for 10 years or less.
The mission of Super Lawyers is to create a credible, comprehensive, and diverse listing of exceptional attorneys to be used as a resource for both referring attorneys and consumers seeking legal counsel. The Super Lawyers lists are published nationwide in Super Lawyers Magazines and in leading city and regional magazines and newspapers across the country.
King is a native of the Pee Dee region, being born and raised in Johnsonville.  He attended the Charleston School of Law and graduated summa cum laude in 2011.
During his time in law school, King served as an intern for federal Judge Richard M. Gergel of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.
After graduating from law school, King spent a year as a law clerk for state Circuit Judge J. Michael Baxley of the Fourth Judicial Circuit.  In 2012, Mason began his practice with the Douglas Jennings Law Firm at 151 Broad Street in Bennettsville.
His community involvement includes recently being sworn in as the President of the Bennettsville Rotary Club.
King's practice focuses primarily on personal injury, wrongful death, insurance,  and medical negligence cases.  He has successfully tried cases in both South Carolina state and federal courts.
“We are so proud of Mason for being recognized by his peers with this high honor,” said attorney Doug Jennings, who added that “we are so fortunate to have such a bright and capable lawyer practicing with us here in Bennettsville and in the surrounding communities.  A lawyer of his quality has many opportunities to practice in larger cities, but Mason loves the Pee Dee and serving the good people of the Pee Dee.”
