The third annual Community Clean-up Day originally planned for April has been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21.
It will be from 8 a.m.-noon. The City of Bennettsville and other municipalities and other organizations have agreed to partner with the county.
Volunteers are needed. If someone or an organization would like to participate, call 843-479-5600 or email edevasst@marlborocounty.sc.gov.
A box lunch is planned at the end of the event.
Other business
In other business, county council members:
— approved the third reading of ordinance #799, an ordinance to amend the agreement for the development of a multi-county industrial and business park by and between Darlington County and Marlboro County, South Carolina, providing for the development of a jointly owned and operated industrial/business park to include additional property in Darlington County as part of the joint county industrial park, and other matters relating thereto.
— approved first reading in title only of ordinance #801 – an ordinance authorizing the execution and delivery of a fee-in-lieu of tax and incentive agreement by and between Marlboro County, South Carolina (the “county”) and a company identified at the time being as Project Onward and one or more Special Source Revenue Credit Agreements, each with respect to certain property in the county, whereby such property will be subject to certain fees-in-lieu of ad valorem taxes and/or the provision of certain special source revenue credits; and other matters related thereto.
— approved the first reading of ordinance #802 adopting, revising, amending, restating, codifying, and compiling the Marlboro County Solid Waste Management Plan.
— approved first reading in title only of ordinance #803 to establish the organization of the Marlboro County Economic Development Agency for Marlboro County.
— approved a work session for a strategic planning update at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Bennettsville Community Center.
— approved 2021 holiday schedule.
Upcoming events
McLeod Health Cheraw has invited the council to attend an outdoor meet and greet drop-in for the new Administrator Bren Lowe from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 20 at 711 Chesterfield Highway in Cheraw. Light refreshments will be served. Social distancing will be observed and masks required.
The annual Employee Christmas Celebration luncheon will have take-out plates on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Marlboro County Courthouse. Plates will be made available at lunchtime and a brief and informal meeting will be held before lunch at 11:30 a.m. and another at 1 p.m. This will allow county offices to stagger lunchtimes.
