– Marlboro County will be the location of five of the 15 planned “Future I-73 Corridor” signs. Rep. Doug Jennings told the Herald-Advocate today that the signs will be unveiled in late April or early May when the S.C. Department of Transportation (SCDOT) returns to Bennettsville for a Commission meeting.

– The parents of Marlboro County public school students will ultimately decide whether the district adopts a school uniform policy next year, said Penny Nobles, a parent who serves as Chairman of a School Uniform Committee.

– Ethel W. McCullough has been named Marlboro Park Hospital’s “Employee of the Year – 1996.” Mrs. McCullough is a Certified Nursing Assistant. She will join the Employees of the Year from Community Health’s other 40 hospitals for an all-expense paid weekend at the Opryland Grand Hotel in Nashville Tennessee. “Ms. Ethel” has worked at the hospital since 1955.

– David Lee Jones was ordained into the ministry on Sunday, March 9, at 7 p.m. The service was held at Bath First Baptist Church, Bath, S.C., where he had served as Youth Minister. Rev. David Jones is the son of Bill and Doris Jones of Clio.

– Will the Marlboro County Courthouse receive a facelift? Marlboro County Council has been asked to consider that project as part of a Capital Improvement Plan currently under consideration. Bennettsville City Administrator Hank Veleker addressed County Council during a public hearing held Thursday, March 13 on the Capital Improvement Plan. He showed council members an architect’s drawing of an improved Courthouse façade. The drawing adds a portico and columns to the Main Street entrance of the building. A rough estimate of the project’s cost is $200,000, he said.
