The character education trait for December was compassion.

Harmonie Owens was chosen as the district winner for grades PK-6 as Marlboro County School District Character Education Student of the Month.

A third-grader at Clio Elementary School, Owens was recognized during the January Board of Education meeting.

The following is what her teacher wrote about her: “Harmonie Owens is a very beautiful, sweet, loving, and compassionate young lady. She demonstrates compassion every day. She deeply cares about other people. She loves to give hugs to help someone feel better. When a student needs a pencil or some paper, she is the first one to say, “I got one, or I got some.” She then gives it to them. There are lots of times, before anyone asks, that she volunteers to share her supplies. When a student doesn’t feel well or is sick, she always asks, “what’s the matter?”, or “are you okay?” Harmonie also loves to help in the classroom. She helps students with their reading and their classwork. She also likes to help me pass out folders, worksheets, whatever is needed. Harmonie is a prime example of what compassion is in our world. Congratulations on showing the character trait of compassion for the month of December and all year here at Clio Elementary!”
