S.C. Law Enforcement Division agents arrested Friday (Oct. 16) a former officer with the  Bennettsville Police Department in connection with soliciting sexual acts in exchange for  dismissing issued traffic citations. 

Due to circumstances related to Covid-19 the homecoming game versus Lake City High School has been canceled. The AD for FSD3 contacted Coach Bobby Collins this morning to inform him of the team having to quarantine effectively immediately. All homecoming activities for Marlboro County HS will be rescheduled at a later date.

Principal Dr. Jamane Watson says, “although we regret that this has happened, we are encouraged that our day for our students and our community will turn around for us all again soon!”

McCOLL  —  Work has begun on a $2.2 million broadband expansion in the county.
A group, which included Sen. Gerald Malloy, Rep. Pat Henegan, County Administrator Ron Munnerlyn, County Council Chairman Jason Steen, District 6 County Councilman Verd Odom, Sandhill Telephone Cooperative CEO Lee Chambers, South Carolina Office of Regulatory (ORS) Staff  Executive Director Nanette Edwards, ORS Broadband Project Administrator Chris Rozycki, Mark Stanley of Sandhill, listened as engineer Larry Garrick of McCall-Thomas Engineering Company talked at the site in McColl about the work being done.
Edwards said ORS approved the funding of 78 applications statewide.
This infrastructure expansion will make high-speed broadband available to homes, businesses, schools, health care facilities, and other institutions in unserved areas across South Carolina.

In the last week, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control confirmed 37 new cases with 75 active cases.
The active cases can be found in the following zipcodes: 29512 (Bennettsville), 46; 29516 (Blenheim), 3; 29525 (Clio), 5; 29570 (McColl), 12; 29594 (Tatum), 0; 29596 (Wallace), 6; and 3, unknown.
The county has 978 overall cases.
In the state, there are 153,729 confirmed cases, and 3,387 confirmed deaths.

Senior placekicker Dylan Clark booted a 23-yard field goal in overtime to cap an unlikely comeback by Marlboro County High Friday night.  Clark's kick boosted the Bulldogs to a 16-13 victory.
"I'm just proud of our guys' determination and resilience.  We made plays when we had to.  Down by 13, they refused to give up and got this win," said head coach Bobby Collins, who got a Gatorade bath during the postgame celebration.
Midway through the third quarter a Bulldog victory looked to be highly unlikely.  Lakewood had just partially blocked a Marlboro punt and, leading 13-0, they had the ball at the Marlboro 35.
However, the Bulldog defense refused to surrender points that would have sealed the game, given the sluggish nature of the Marlboro offense.  A tackle for lost yardage, followed by a sack on fourth down ended the threat.
"Our defense kept us in the game.  They forced turnovers and even when Lakewood moved the ball, they were able to get the drives stopped," said Collins.
After a holding penalty, the Bulldog offense finally answered.  Hakeem Stanback connected with Quatrice Bostic for a 36-yard gain to move into Gator territory. 
Moments later, the Bulldogs faced a fourth and 10 at the Lakewood 27.  Stanback rolled out to his right to escape the pass rush, then  hit JaCardo Riggins down the sidelines.  Riggins raced past the Gator defense to the endzone.
