School board approves pay increase for board members

The Marlboro County Board of Education took a step toward increasing board compensation during its regular monthly meeting Monday.
The meeting included first reading of an amended board compensation policy. A required second reading will take place at a special called meeting next Monday. If approved as expected, the new compensation plan will take effect on January 1.

The Marlboro County High football team advanced to the Lower State Championship by thrashing Myrtle Beach 42-17 Friday night at the Seahawks’ Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.  The victory was particularly sweet for the Bulldogs, who had fallen to Myrtle Beach in their three previous meetings, all in the playoffs.  Marlboro County was led by a rushing attack that had been absent most of the season and an opportunistic defense that forced five turnovers....
