BENNETTSVILLE—A one-car accident snarled traffic in downtown Bennettsville Saturday evening.

According to Bennettsville Police, the driver of the vehicle was traveling on Cheraw Street when the brakes on the vehicle gave out. This caused the car to crash into the brick fence and steps near the Bennettsville Visitor’s Center at the intersection of West Main and Cheraw Streets.

The driver suffered minor injuries, BPD said, and was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, N.C.

Traffic was reduced to one lane in both directions while the scene was cleared.
