Jean Quick named Rotary Four-Way Test Good Citizen of the Year
Bennettsville business owner and city councilman Jean Quick was named as the Rotary Club of Bennettsville's Four-Way Test Good Citizen for 2017.  Quick was honored at the club's Tuesday lunch meeting at The Skye.
Lon Lester, chairman of the club's Four-Way Test award selection committee, told about the award that the club has bestowed on a deserving community member since 1987.

Joint use agreement still needed for Walker Park project to proceed

Bennettsville City Council once again took up the matter of Walker Park during a workshop on Monday.
Mayor Heath Harpe brought it up, saying he had received some inquiries about the status of a joint use agreement approved by a majority of the council more than a year ago, in April 2016.

MCHS holds graduation

MCHS holds graduation
Marlboro County High held its graduation exercises Saturday morning at McAlpine Stadium.  Despite a warm, muggy morning, the stands were full as the Class of 2017 received their diplomas. 

School board approves reconfiguration

The Marlboro County Board of Education approved an alternative reconfiguration plan for the 2017-18 school year during a special called meeting on Wednesday.
The district superintendent, Dr. Helena Tillar, recommended the plan based on concerns of citizens and board members, calling it “a compromise.”

Library to kick off Summer Reading Program Saturday
The Marian Wright Edelman Public Library will host its third annual Summer Reading Kickoff at the McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church gymnasium (400 S. Main Street) in McColl on Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
The kickoff will serve as the first day of registration for the library’s 2017 reading program, and also give children a taste of the excitement planned at the library over the summer.
