Lake repairs done, should be open soon

Anyone who has driven by Lake Paul Wallace in the last couple of days might have noticed that it is quickly filling with water. That is because the repairs to the spillway are finally finished.
Department of Natural Resources engineers approved the repairs and closing of the spillway valve last Friday, August 4, and due to the rain of the last week, it is filling quicker than expected.  Exactly how quickly the lake will be available for recreational use is up to  Mother Nature.

Marlboro County High's football team got its first taste of action against an opponent Saturday morning, hosting West Florence in a controlled scrimmage.
Like most early season scrimmages for the Bulldogs, the coaches gave the team a mixed review.
"I saw a bunch of good things, stuff that we can build upon.  There were also a lot of mistakes but those should be things we can work to correct," said head coach Dean Boyd.

The Marlboro County Coordinating Council, under the leadership of Chairman Patricia Henegan, SC House of Representatives District 54, hosted a free Community Health and Wellness Fair Thursday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bennettsville Community Center.

Marlboro County Economic Development Partnership offered local industry, business and civic leaders the  opportunity to ride on the Marlboro County-owned railroad last Thursday.  Several tours showed how the Pee Dee River Railroad serves Mohawk’s Oak River Site, Hanson Aggregates,  and Domtar’s Marlboro Mill.

Looking to improve on last year's 5-6 campaign, the Marlboro County Bulldogs hit the field Friday afternoon for the start of fall practice.
"It is always an exciting time of year.  Everyone is undefeated and full of optimism and we are no different," said head coach Dean Boyd, who will be entering his 21st season as the head Bulldog.
