McNeil stepping down as police chief
Larry McNeil’s career in law enforcement, which has spanned 40 years, will come to an end on October 28.  McNeil announced last Friday that he is retiring as Bennettsville’s Chief of Police the last week in the month.
“My family and I have been talking about it for awhile.  It is just time to move on,” said McNeil.

While the Marlboro County football team needed a break, this wasn't what coach Dean Boyd had in mind.  The Bulldogs' game with Wilson has been postponed until November 4. 
"It was really out of our hands when the Governor made the announcement yesterday," said Boyd Wednesday.

Kinney receives top award from Nat’l Newspaper Assn.
Bennettsville journalist Bill Kinney Jr. was awarded the prestigious  James O. Amos Award by the National Newspaper Association at its annual convention in Franklin, TN, Saturday, September 24.
James Amos owned the Shelby County Democrat in Ohio, which has passed from the family’s ownership and is now known as the Sidney Daily News.
