BLENHEIM — More than 75 scholars at Blenheim Elementary Middle School site of the CDF Freedom Schools program Wednesday had a chance to learn about civic responsibility through voting.
It was part of the Children’s Defense Fund’s 2018 National Day of Social Action.
Scholars there and at other Freedom School sites at Wallace Elementary Middle School and Bennettsville Primary School participated in mock elections.

Being a strong advocate for kids and always wanting to give them the best has played a strong role in Dr. Gregory McCord wanting to be a superintendent.
“I believe in doing what is in the best interest of the kids,” he said. “It is being able to give back to young people what I felt I missed as a student that has always been a reward for me.”
The path started years ago when McCord was a classroom teacher.

BLENHEIM — For two months and 10 days, Brad Siler and his girlfriend Lindsay Self had no idea where their three-year-old pit bull Mila was.
"It was an emotional roller coaster," Siler said in a phone interview on Tuesday. "There were days that we would be really hopeful. You would get some really promising leads."

Salkehatchie Summer Service returns to Marlboro County
Last week, 120 youth and adult volunteers from all over the state came to Marlboro County to help make much-needed repairs to various homes.
The volunteers were part of the Salkehatchie Summer Service, which is a program of the United Methodist Church.
The program has week-long camps during the summer all over the state.
