Northeastern Technical College students wanting to earn a certification or degree to start a new career will be able to take classes utilizing this funding starting the Spring semester thanks to a new workforce training scholarship program.

The SC Workforce Scholarships for the Future program was announced by Gov. Henry McMaster in November as a way to address the state’s labor shortage.

The program will use $17 million in the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund money to cover tuition and required fees for students who enroll in workforce training programs. NETC was allocated $376,000

NETC’s tuition scholarships are being made available to all South Carolina residents with a desire to begin or continue their education to go directly into the workforce.

This includes adults with some or no college education and recent high school graduates but does not include students looking to earn a degree for transfer or dual enrollment students.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for the spring semester, complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), and maintain a 2.0 GPA while enrolled.

Funding from the scholarships is “last-dollar” funding which is applied after all federal, state, local, and private assistance, including other available scholarships and grants, are applied. The program does not include books or program-specific supplies.

Registration is now open for the Spring 2022 semester with face-to-face, hybrid, and online programs at campuses in Bennettsville, Cheraw, Pageland, McBee, and Dillon.
