Bulldogs to get final tune-up Thursday night

Marlboro County will face Northern Guilford of Greensboro, NC in the Bulldogs' final scrimmage before the start of the regular season Thursday night at McAlpine Stadium.
The Nighthawks are the defending North Carolina Class 3A champions and are coached by former Hartsville head coach Johnny Roscoe.

After a busy two weeks, Marlboro County High football coach Dean Boyd is pleased with the progress and the work ethic of the 2015 team.
"We are hardly game-ready but the guys are focused on getting better every day. We have only had one bad practice and even that resolved itself," said Boyd.

Fall practice opened with high hopes on Friday for high school football teams across South Carolina. Marlboro County began the season with a huge turnout and lots of enthusiasm.
"We have about 100 kids involved at this point and I've been very pleased with the spirit they have shown," said head coach Dean Boyd.

It also seems to be true that if you just provide it - they will come.
For years, one of the biggest missing pieces in the Marlboro County Recreation Department's puzzle was a gym. To run any indoor programs, the Recreation Department had to coordinate with the school district to use one of their gymnasiums, usually on a weekend.

The new school year is still a few weeks away but preparations for the 2015 football season will start getting serious this Friday.
"We have had a productive summer. The guys showed a good deal of improvement during passing league contests and conditioning workouts. Now, it is time to put it all together," said Dean Boyd, who will be starting his 18th season as the Bulldogs' head coach.
