Boyd in the running for U.S. Cellular’s Most Valuable Coach
U.S. Cellular has announced the Top 50 nominees for its Most Valuable Coach program, and Dr. Dean Boyd of Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville is among them. 
After thousands of nominations were submitted, these Top 50 coaches are now listed on At the end of the program, the winning coach will receive a $50,000 donation to the charitable organization of their choosing or their high school athletic department, a trip to Orlando, Fla., and on-field recognition at the Under Armour High School All-America Game. 

MCHS - Scotland game cancelled

Due to a tornado watch that is in effect through game time, the Bulldogs' annual grudge-match with Scotland County won't happen this year.  The game had been moved to Thursday, in hopes of missing the bad weather.  However, a thunderstorm hit Bennettsville very near the 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff.  The coaches then rescheduled the contest back to the initial start time of 7:30 Friday night.

With storms again in the forecast and now the tornado watch, MCHS athletic director and head football coach Dean Boyd cancelled the game shortly after 2 p.m. today.

Game rescheduled
Wednesday afternoon, Boyd announced the decision to move the game against Scotland to Thursday night due to expected heavy thunderstorms on Friday.
This is the second year in the row that the game will be played on Thursday due to storms.  The Scots won last year’s contest 20-0 at Pate Stadium in Laurinburg.

Bulldogs can’t stop Carvers Bay
Nine months of preparation and anticipation for a  chance at redemption turned to disappointment for the Marlboro County High football team Friday night.
The Bulldogs could not contain Carvers Bay, falling in the regular season opener 46-28 at McAlpine Stadium.
"We missed a boatload of tackles.  We were out of position on other plays.  Carvers Bay hit on several deep passes, something we have been focused on preventing," said head coach Dean Boyd.

Bulldogs kick off the regular season Friday night
Ready or not, it is about time to kick off the 2017 season.  Marlboro County will do so Friday night at home against Carvers Bay High School from near Hemingway.
"It is hard to believe it is game week," said Marlboro County head coach Dean Boyd on Monday.  "We look forward to it all year, but this last few weeks have been a blur."
