Bulldogs host St. James to open playoffs
With the regular season behind and the playoffs about to begin, Marlboro County High head football coach Dean Boyd has one request of the community.
That is to come to McAlpine Stadium to support the local team as they take on St. James High School Friday night.
"In the playoffs, that first win is always the toughest to get.  We need a large, vocal crowd to help us get to the next round," said Boyd.

For many athletes, a brief two-year National Football League career would leave one dispirited, depressed and devalued. But this is not the case for Clio native Rendrick Taylor. With a steadfast commitment to his education as well as the success of others, Taylor is relishing his life as a husband and father and his career as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Clemson University.

Bulldogs hold off Darlington rally
Marlboro County High locked up second place in Region 6-AAA Friday night by defeating Darlington, 56-43.  The Bulldogs built a comfortable lead only to have the Falcons rally for three unanswered touchdowns to cut Marlboro's lead to six points midway through the fourth quarter.  Bulldog senior Demetrius "Buster" Knox (above) took over, leading the team to a pair of late TDs to hold Darlington at bay.  The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season this Friday against Manning.

Dragons win second-consecutive state title
Marlboro Academy clinched its second consecutive SCISA fall soccer state championship Friday by defeating Conway Christian, 3-2, at Francis Marion University's Murray G. Hartzler Field.
"We got off to a great start but had a few nervous minutes there at the end," said head coach Lynn McColl.
Senior captain Kyle Blair got the Dragons off on the right foot, scoring twice in the first few minutes of the game.
Fellow senior Chase Bruner added a third goal before the Eagles got into the flow of the game.

Dragons to play for state title
The Marlboro Academy soccer team cruised by Low Country Day School of Pawleys Island Tuesday in the semi-finals of the SCISA fall league playoffs.  The Dragons built a 3-0 lead in the first half in route to another appearance in the state championship game.  Marlboro defeated Low Country last season to win the state title.
