Bulldogs to host St. James in playoffs

Marlboro County High's boys' basketball team will host St. James High School in the first round of South Carolina Class AAA playoffs Tuesday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.  If the Bulldogs are successful against the Sharks, they will host the winner of the Airport  - Orangeburg - Wilkerson game on Friday night.

It has been a decade since the Marlboro County High basketball team could make the claim of being region champions.  However, after thrashing Lakewood Tuesday night, the team learned that Crestwood had defeated Darlington, sealing the title for the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs survive overtime scare by Crestwood
Senior forward Kijana Johnson scored from under the basket with three seconds remaining in overtime to boost Marlboro County to a 70-68 victory over Crestwood Tuesday night.
The game was Marlboro County’s first home contest since defeating Scotland County on December 17.  All home games since that night were rescheduled due to a malfunction with the bleachers in the Bulldogs’ gym.

The red-hot Marlboro Academy basketball team defeated Pee Dee Academy 43-35 at home Tuesday night to improve to 6-4 overall.
For the Dragons, it was their sixth victory in their last seven games.

Bulldog wrestlers defeat Darlington
The Marlboro County High wrestling team hosted a three-way match Wednesday night against Darlington and Hartsville.  The Bulldogs fell to Hartsville, 54-24, but rallied for a 36-30 victory over Darlington.  Above, MCHS senior Jaseri Harrington pins his Hartsville opponent, scoring six points for the Bulldogs.  Due to scheduling issues, Wednesday’s meet was the only home match for the Bulldogs this season.
