One new and one re-elected Bennettsville Council member was sworn into office Monday.

Wanda Weaver is the newest member of city council for District 1 while Tyron Abraham is the reelected member for District 5 for four-year terms, beginning Monday.

District 3 Council member Allen Taylor was not in attendance and will be sworn in at a later date.

Weaver had the oath of office administered by Johnny Weaver, former mayor of Bennettsville, and her brother-in-law. Her son, Matthew Williams, held the Bible for her. Williams is an IS1 at the Information Warfare Training Command in Virginia Beach.

Abraham, who is starting his second term, had his oath of office administered by attorney Doug Jennings. His daughter, Petty Officer Alexis Abraham of the United States Navy, held the Bible for him. His son, Tyrone, is also in the Navy.

Mayor Carolyn Prince recognized Sandy Donaldson for her 20 years of service on the council.
