SWAT team ends standoff Tuesday

Tuesday morning the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Cricket Road in Bennettsville after reports were made that a male subject pointed a gun at a person elsewhere in the community before returning to his home. Information was also received that the male subject, Tony Oxendine, 62, had assaulted a victim and forced him by gunpoint into the victim's vehicle where Oxendine then drove the victim to another location and began threatening the victim before presenting a firearm.
When Oxendine returned to Cricket Road he was met by a deputy with the Sheriff's Office. When the deputy contacted him, Oxendine threw a chair at the deputy in an attempt to evade him, then lifted his shirt to show the deputy that he was armed. The deputy attempted to use non-lethal measures to take the subject into custody but those measures failed.
