The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals following a Jan. 23 murder in Bennettsville. 

According to Lt. Trevor Murphy, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Ella Street in Bennettsville on Jan. 23 about a male being shot. Upon arrival, deputies and medical personnel attempted to aid 27-year-old Oliver Jamale Douglas of Bennettsville but found he had died as a result of the gunshot wounds he sustained. 

As a result of the investigation, two persons have been arrested. Jamarcus Antwan McLaurin, 39, turned himself in at the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office and has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Tommy Gerald Gillespie, 27, was also arrested and has been charged with accessory after the fact of murder. 

McLaurin is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center and Gillespie has been released on a secure bond. 

Murphy said the investigation is still ongoing.
