– Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday for the city’s new municipal complex to be located on East Main Street in Bennettsville.

– A fire damaged the attic in McColl High School. According to McColl Fire Chief Ellis Moore, the 9:45 p.m. fire occurred in the old elementary school which is part of McColl High School.

– John I. Rogers, III, Bennettsville attorney, announced his candidacy for the Marlboro County seat in the S.C. House of Representatives Monday.

– The town of Wallace could land a small industry if they supply their end of the deal to provide the area with a new water system. A $237,000 loan plus a $42,000 grant were approved for the Wallace Water Company, Inc. of Marlboro County by the Farmers Home Administration last month. This will allow the company to develop a rural water system to serve 230 families in the Wallace area.

– Five more candidates have offered for local political offices this week. Incumbents Sheriff Jack Weatherly, Coroner Francis Stanton, and Supervisor William P. Wallace have filed for re-election to their posts in the upcoming Democratic Primary. Robert L. Blackwell has also filed for Supervisor and DuPre Miller has filed for Fourth Circuit Solicitor.

– Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Bright announce the engagement of their daughter, Rosa Lelia, to Herrise Alexander Bright, who resides with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clemson Davis, of Hamlet, N.C. The wedding will be May 6 at Aaron Temple Church of Bennettsville.
